Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young was unable to contain his laughter after a New York Giants staff member accidentally roasted him.
The staffer, who was setting up for Young’s media appearance, asked reporters if the microphone was positioned low enough, so as to not to block the rookie’s face while he answered questions.
‘How’s this?’ the staffer asked in front of the microphone. ‘I’m 5’9″. So this won’t block him?’
The staff member then turned his head and quickly said ‘oh sorry,’ as he realized Young was standing nearby waiting to approach the podium.
As he walked towards the mic Young could be heard off camera responding, ‘The difference between 5’9″ and 5’10” is huge.’ Members of the media could then be heard laughing.
After standing in front of the microphone Young laughed to himself as he smiled and looked away from the camera for a second.
Leading up to this year’s NFL Draft much was made about Young’s height – or lack thereof – after he measured in at 5-foot-10.
Young showed some nice strides in his second taste of preseason action against the Giants after taking some big hits in his preseason debut against the New York Jets.
‘I feel like there´s always room for improvement,’ Young said.
‘It´s about trying to keep growing day by day. So I think the more reps and more experience you get, to go up against another team, that´s a valuable experience for me, especially in this league.’
Young played two series and was 3-6 for 35 yards in the 21-19 loss to the Giants. His best moment of the night came on a 15-yard pass to Jonathan Mingo on a play where the former Alabama star read a blitz by Wink Martindale’s defense and found the hot receiver.
‘It was a good read, and I think he was seeing it really well,’ Panthers coach Frank Reich said of Young’s play.
‘They did blitz a few times. I think we made the right protection calls every time. I just felt like he was comfortable and poised in the pocket and seeing what he was supposed to see.’
