The Cleveland Browns have ruled out six players with a seventh notable player unlikely to play in Saturday’s preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jerome Ford, Marquise Goodwin, Drew Forbes, and Harrison Bryant are ruled out due to injuries. Isaiah Thomas and Alex Wright are both working their way back from surgeries and are also listed as out. Anthony Schwartz is considered unlikely to play due to a hamstring issue but has not been specifically designated as out.
Analysis
Two players appearing above that could be on their way out in Cleveland. Those players are Forbes and Schwartz. The Browns have plenty of other options on their offensive line ahead of Forbes, which should point toward his inevitable departure from the team.
Regarding Schwartz, he has been a massive disappointment since being drafted in the third round ahead of the 2021-22 season. Schwartz came into the league having trouble tracking the football, and that has continued through his first two seasons. Cleveland has actively added more receivers to the team as it has become abundantly clear that he has fallen out of favor with the organization. This regime has had trouble parting ways with players they have placed some level of faith in. That must change when it comes to Schwartz. Cut bait now and move forward with the receiver room as currently constructed.
The players (besides Forbes) ruled out are expected. Ford went down with an injury and was expected to miss some time. Goodwin has been sidelined due to a blood clot issue, and the timeline for his return is currently unknown.
