A number one Maltese chef has recounted the traumatic expertise of seeing his mom overwhelmed every day by her accomplice, and the lengths he went to when coping with the abuse.
Throughout his look on Jon Mallia’s podcast present Il-Podcast ta’ Jon, Daniel Borg Cardona, of Burgers.Ink and Wagyu fame, spoke about how his mom started courting an Irishman.
“He was an excellent man, with a coronary heart of gold – however when he drank, he’d beat her every day. Each single day. And that’s when my life began falling behind.”
Borg Cardona, who has beforehand opened up about his strained relationship together with his mom after he reunited along with her after 12 years a couple of Christmases in the past, stated the abuse led him to commit petty crimes.
“I’d go residence, and one time I stole LM25 from a grocer throughout from me… I’d go to him each morning as if I used to be shopping for a banana, and I went and opened his money register and took LM25.”
“And I requested myself, ‘what am I going to do with this money?’ So I went and purchased an MP3 participant. You understand why I purchased it? In order that after I went residence within the night I might put music on so I wouldn’t hear him beating my mum.”
He would pray for a reprieve for his mom.
“I’d say “ilalla man, please Jesus, make it that this night he doesn’t beat her.”
“So I’d simply lay in mattress with the songs taking part in so I don’t hear her screams… it was day by day, Monday to Friday, that he’d beat her….”
